"Selah is a Hebrew word found 74 times in the Bible (71 in Psalms, 3 in Habakkuk), often understood as a musical or liturgical pause, signifying a moment to stop, reflect, and examine our hearts."
About: Inselah.org is meant to help others understand, apply, and reflect on Scripture. Each reflection comes from my personal understanding of the word, and my hope is that others can grow in understanding alongside me.
Scripture Reflections
Devotional 1: Living What We Preach
May 12th, 2026
While reading Romans 2 about the Jews and the law, something stuck out to me that I believe is an important reminder for all of us.
I specifically want to highlight the importance of the last verse in this section
Romans 2:24
“For, as it is written, The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.’”
Why is this verse important?
The Jews boasted in the Lord’s law, taught others, condemned sin, and preached righteousness, while many were not even following the things they were teaching to others. Just as many modern day Christians boast in the Lord’s name, preach the Gospel, and condemn others, but don’t live by the things they preach.
The Gentiles did not know the God of Abraham. They were watching the Jewish people to see if their God was real. Just like people today who are learning about Jesus look at our behavior and form opinions about God through us.
Romans 2:24 is so important because if you do not obey the law yourself, the name of God can be blasphemed among people who do not know the Lord.
Reflection Questions
Do my actions reflect the God I claim to follow?
Am I focused more on correcting others than
examining my own heart?
